How to Find Pleasure in Each Day

Finding pleasure in each day

Do you want to be happy? I’m sure the answer is yes, after all who doesn’t want to be happy? Research has shown that there are certain activities that you can do each day that can help improve your feelings of happiness. Here are some pieces of advice to help you find more pleasure in every single day and increase the amount of happiness in your life.

Be Grateful for the Good Things

A good place to start with finding pleasure in your own life is to be grateful for the positive things happening. Ask yourself questions such as: What went well today? What am I excited about? Who do I love? What am I grateful for in my life right now? Asking yourself these questions every day is the first step towards feeling better about yourself. You could also try keeping a gratitude diary and record details of positive experiences and things you are thankful for on a daily basis. This will help you recognise the simple pleasures in everyday life.

Do Something You Enjoy Every Day

The more often that you do activities that make you feel good, the happier and more relaxed you will feel. Taking time to do something which makes you happy relieves stress and encourages productivity. That could be going for a walk, seeing friends and family, listening to music you like; anything which makes you feel good. We all have busy lifestyles, but it is always important to make time for you.

Savour Things

Savouring is the ability to truly sense an experience. If you are doing something enjoyable but your mind is preoccupied with other worries, you will not truly be benefiting from that experience. To savour an experience, focus on the five senses: sight, touch, hearing, smell and even taste. Think about how that experience makes you feel. Savouring experiences allows you to get more pleasure from the things which you enjoy. Try to savour experiences every day.

Focus on What You’re Doing Well

As you take steps towards a healthier lifestyle, it is important to focus on what is going well, rather than things which have not gone as well as you would have liked. Making lifestyle changes can be a significant transition which some may find difficult, but focusing on the positive things can help to keep you motivated and more likely to stay on track. Reminding yourself of the positive things that you have done every day will shift your focus away from negativity, and allow your self-belief and self-esteem to flourish.

Learn to Love Yourself

The more you love yourself, the more likely you are to make positive changes and look after yourself. Rather than thinking of all the aspects of your life you wish to change, focus on the things you like about yourself. Try writing down some statements which highlight your attributes, for example, ‘I care about people’, ‘I am honest’, ‘I have a lovely group of friends’, ‘I am fun to be around’. By continuing to build a bank of your positive qualities, your self-confidence and self-belief will increase and feelings of unhappiness and worthlessness will decrease.

Taking pleasure in your life and taking time for yourself every day will benefit your overall wellbeing in many ways. If you would like more advice on how to improve your self-esteem, or would like assistance with lifestyle changes, please get in touch.
